Grapefruit is similar in shape to a Valencia orange. The pebbled skin will range from a bright yellow to an orange –yellow color. Grapefruits have a fairly thick rind and segmented flesh. Grapefruits will range from red sweeter varieties (Rio & Starr Rubies) in the winter to pale “pink” (more sour) varieties in the summer (Marsh)
